Haiti Earthquake

We are challenged when a tragedy of this size takes place in our world.  As Christians we recognize that our world is broken because of sin.  Our faith leads us to trust that God is sovereign, God is good, God is present and God calls us to respond with action.

On 1/17 our congregation responded with a $1,117 Special Offering to go to One Great Hour of Sharing.

Our church has a close relationship with missionary Kristy Engel and the work of the Good Samaritan Hospital in La Romana, Dominican Republic.  That hospital is providing support by sending trained medical people and supplies to Haiti.  Here are some additional updates concerning this mission work:

  • LaRomana.org: Website of Good Samaritan Mission Council which coordinates work between the Good Samaritan Hospital and U.S. missions.  Daily updates from the teams that are going to Haiti.

Thanks to those who joined us at the Great Works School in South Berwick for the "Where in the World is La Romana?" Rotary-sponsored community geography-quiz night.  $6,800 was raised and is being used on a project to equip the Good Samaritan Hospital with $425,000 worth of used hospital equipment.  Weekly Sentinel Article.
